Be the Hero: Learn CPR Today!

You never know when you’ll need to save a life. “Be prepared, not scared” isn’t just a motto – it’s a call to action. Every year in the U.S., nearly 500,000 people lose their lives to cardiac arrest, with fewer than half receiving potentially life-saving CPR from a bystander. By learning CPR, you can make a critical difference, maintaining blood flow to the brain and keeping hope alive.

Quick CPR Tips: Be Ready to Act

Before Starting CPR

  1. Call 911 and grab an AED (or have someone else do it).
  2. Ensure the area is safe for you.
  3. Check if the person is responsive and breathing.
  4. If unresponsive and not breathing normally, START CPR!

No CPR Training? Try Hands-Only CPR!

  1. Push hard and fast on the center of the chest.
  2. Maintain a rhythm of 100-120 compressions per minute (pro tip: compress to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees).
  3. When the AED arrives, turn it on and follow its instructions.

Stop-the-Bleed (STB) Save a Life

Delaware County EMS providers are trained to stabilize patients who may have traumatic bleeding. In the minutes prior to our arrival, critical blood loss may occur unless bystanders take immediate action. The purpose of the STOP THE BLEED® campaign is to make our nation more resilient by better preparing the public to save lives if people nearby are severely bleeding. This preparation is being done by raising awareness and teaching people how to learn three quick actions to control serious bleeding. Learn more about Stop-the-Bleed.
