Tuition Assistance

Continuing your education is paramount for all professionals in prehospital patient care. We take pride in offering tuition assistance to employees pursuing professional degrees or certain relevant courses within the EMS field.

Student Internships

Our staff hosts students from surrounding colleges and EMS councils through EMT-student internship programs. EMTs at all levels are required to log ride time with experienced crews during their schooling. Additionally, Delaware County EMS serves as a clinical site for third-year medical students from The Ohio State University Medical School.

Simulation Lab

Every quarter, employees rotate through our Simulation House for immersive hands-on training. The use of our Advanced Patient Simulators (manikins), including “Noelle,” who simulates childbirth, and “Hal”, a child simulator used for pediatric scenarios, provide a lifelike environment for practicing critical thinking skills. This approach, known as “suspension of disbelief,” allows paramedics to treat simulated patients as if they were real, enhancing their ability to respond effectively in actual emergencies.

Shift Clinical Educators

Our medical directors collaborate with our training team and Shift Clinical Educators to develop monthly training sessions. These sessions, conducted by our six SCEs at each station on every shift, ensure continuous skill and knowledge enhancement for all personnel.

Online Learning

Quarterly, our employees are assigned designated online courses via our Learning Management System (LMS), precisely tailored to meet certification, compliance, and training mandates. Additionally, they have access to thousands of supplementary training modules for ongoing learning. Our specialized EMS-focused LMS offers 24/7/365 accessibility, facilitating continuous education while seamlessly tracking credentials. This integrated system promotes excellence, compliance, and sustained professional development, bolstering our commitment to quality patient care.

Core Competencies

All Delaware County EMS employees participate in the annual Core Competency process. This rigorous half-day event involves demonstrating skills and critical thinking abilities across various scenarios, overseen by physicians. Skills like airway management, drug delivery, and defibrillating are a few of the skills that are required for completion of the process.

Virtual Reality

The latest addition to our training arsenal, Virtual Reality (VR), we are pushing the boundaries of training techniques. This innovative tool allows us to create and customize realistic virtual patient scenarios, such as teaching SALT Triage and simulating mass casualty events. Accessible via VR headsets or web browsers, this tool offers an exciting and immersive approach to training, inspiring you to stay at the forefront of your field.
